La Cruz - January 2009
We are still enjoying La Cruz
and Banderas Bay. We
celebrated my birthday at
Chico's Paradise., a jungle
restaurant located about 20
miles south of Puerto
Vallarta. It only took us 2
1/2 hours and three buses
to get there. Thanks to
John and Deb (Lovely Reta),
Graig and Kiki (Oya), Tom
and Diane (Imagine) and
Bob and Linda (Tahoma) for
making the journey with us.
One of the very best things
about La Cruz is Jesus and
Lettie and their three
beautiful children. We feel
blessed that we were able
to befriend them two years
ago. And we are thankful
we are able to visit with
them every time we return.
This year, besides the
wonderful dinners at their
home, we were invited to
join them on the panga
(Ivette II) for the "Blessing
of the Fleet." Every town in
Mexico takes a week to
celebrate their patron
Saint. Bucerias'
celebration includes a
"Blessing of the Fleet"
where the La Cruz fishing
pangas decorate their
boats and parade to
nearby Bucerias.
We showed up early to
help decorate and off we
went. About 40 boats were
in the parade, including a
boat that carried the band
who serenaded us as we
made our way to the
crowds in Bucerias.
Bucerias does not have
docks, so the pangas took
turns running full throttle
through the surf to land on
the beach.
Jesus did not choose to
beach his boat, so we were
transferred to another
panga for the ride to shore.
We have made more than
one dinghy landing in
similar circumstances and
we were happy to be on
someone else's boat.
