Dave Fest
There are many festivals for Cruisers. There's Sail Fest, Bay Fest and Loreto Fest. This year we added one more - Dave Fest. Unlike the other festivals that raise money for local charities, Dave Fest was just about celebrating David's birthday.
We landed in beautiful Zihuatanejo on February 12th. Dave Fest began the next day with a brunch on Southern Belle and ended on the 16th after a Lucha Libre event.

Anyway, the ads indicated that tickets could be
purchased at Pollo Feliz (Happy Chicken
restaurant). Sure enough, we found the Pollo Feliz
and there was a guy sitting outside selling tickets.
We bought enough tickets for us, John and Bridget
(Sailsoon), Tim and Paula (Hooligan) and George,
Melinda and Joshua (Southern Belle). (We decided
not to go with ringside - something about bodily
fluids.)
Once at the event, George, David and Joshua
purchased masks. A lot children were wearing
masks, not too many adults outside of George and
David. Before the matches began, many little kids
would jump in the ring to play. Security would
indulge the little ones for awhile, before removing
them. Security was not so indulgent with David and
George after they jumped in the ring.
After they were escorted from the ring, the "pros" finally came out. But David still entertained the crowd. Thanks to Bridget (Sailsoon) for these wonderful photos!
Isla Grande
We stayed in beautiful Zihuatanejo until
March 10th. There was much to do in this
magical town. We got to visit with Uncle
Jerry who came into town on the grand
fishing boat, Geneva M. The captain Allan
and crew took us for a day trip to Isla
Grande. We were greeted by a panga from
a nearby palapa bar. He offered us food
and drink. Funny, when we took Sweet
Lorraine to Isla Grande, we did not receive
the same greeting. Hmmmm.
Guitarfest
We were able to enjoy
GuitarFest in early March.
This was a week long event
featuring over 20
performers. We were able to
enjoy many of the acts in the
company of Tim and Paula
(Hooligan).
Zihua
The following are
some photos of
lovely Zihua. We had
such a great time
there. Unfortunately,
this is also where we
had to say goodbye
to many of our
southbound friends,
including our best
cruising buddies
George, Melinda and
Joshua off Southern
Belle. One of my
saddest days since
we left the states.
Sunday afternoons mean
Soccer in Manzanillo. The
cruisers started to attend the
games. A bunch of us walk
to the main street and wait
for a bus to the stadium.
This particular Sunday
afternoon, we were able to
convince a young bus driver
(looked to be about 14
years old) to abandon his
normal route and take us
straight to the game. Much
to the displeasure of the two
locals, who decided to get off
and try another bus.
Las Hadas
Semana Santo (Holy Week) is
huge in Mexico. Our Semana
Santo included a visit from
David's niece, Courtney, and
her friend, Carly. We moved
the boat to Las Hadas
anchorage before their arrival.
Las Hadas is a beautiful old
resort featured in the film "Ten".
The girls weren't too impressed
- having no idea who Bo Derrick
is. Anyway, a good time was
had by all.
Lucha Libre
Similar to American Big Time Wrestling, Lucha Libre consists of "professional" wrestlers who compete in front of adoring fans. I am not sure where the masks fit in, but they are vital to the overall event. We spotted the
advertisements for the upcoming event and quickly decided to attend. After all, it's a cultural event and that's what this trip is about - right?.
Manzanillo
We arrived back in Manzanillo March 14th after a rather rolly trip north with Sailsoon. We had not spent much time in Manzanillo Bay on the way south. This time around we spent more time.
The game was great and the fans were even better. Goals were followed by confetti and shaving cream - yes shaving cream. (I wonder how that would go over at Raider games.)
